Earlier this morning, I reported on Search Engine Roundtable that Google users are becoming infected with malware after clicking on Sponsored Listings. The problem was discovered on April 10th. Another victim of a similar Google AdWords hack reported the issue on April 23rd.
Yesterday, I also addressed a consistent concern about irrelevant Google AdSense ads. This problem is a lot more prevalent. The URLs don’t necessarily take users to the desired location. I suppose the paid search experience, even with a Quality Score, is just not as good as the organic search experience for some terms.
It’s April 26th and there’s a definite need for a very involved human element to be introduced into assessing the reliability of sponsored listings. Minutes ago, I noticed via TheGoogleCache that there’s a definite problem with sponsored results displaying totally useless information.
I was able to reproduce the problem too. Take a look and see for yourself:

As more and more people find the way to monetize, more and more people find ways to exploit monetization. With the billions of dollars Google invests in advertising, it would be a wonderful thing if they got it down pat algorithmically. But until then, there should be a many more pairs of eyes working to ensure that surfer experience is enhanced from a paid perspective.

This was SES NY day one for me, but for the rest of the attendees, day 2 of the conference was well underway. Since this is my first time meeting just about everyone, thank you! It was such a pleasure meeting you all.
Instead of posting all in one day (there may be way too many photos), here are some of the photos I shot today. Click on the photos for larger sized images.

I’m still posting lightly for the next week, but I had some time to Stumble a bit, and here’s what I’ve found.
- Winston’s Lego Computer: This guy built a computer out of Legos. Pretty cool stuff.
- The Meaning of Colors: Interesting page that explains the symbolism behind colors. Did you know that people are more productive in blue rooms?
- Fonts 500: I love fonts. Here are some freeware ones that you can download for designs and documents.
- Weird Facts: Interested in useless trivia? Here’s one for you: Every year about 98% of atoms in your body are replaced.
- Homemade Obstacle Course: Wow, I thought this stuff was only fictional like in Back to the Future. This video shows some pretty impressive tricks.
- The Most Amazing Images from StumbleUpon: StumbleUpon lets you see some pretty impressive images. This guy took the best of 20 or so and put them all in one page for you to enjoy without sorting through hundreds of pages to find the best.

Another meme has come to town, and this time I’m answering this one here (my last meme was posted over at 10e20.com — 5 things you don’t know about me). Nathan Weinberg (still no relation) tagged me and Barry, among a few others, and while I’m totally under the weather with an awful cold, I decided that I have to oblige right away because I’m going to be inundated with family and conferences over the next week.
So, why do I blog? Upon giving it more thought, here are my reasons:
- I love to write. On my About page, I write about how I wanted to be an author. That never quite materialized (attempting to realize your parents’ dreams at a very impressionable young age almost always does that to you). With my blog, I can freely express what I want and can finally see myself as a writer.
- I love to learn. My blogs (well, there are actually six of them) have enabled me to open doors and learn new things.
- 10e20 gave me the opportunity to explore the blogging arena in the area of SEO and social media, using strategies learned at an older job.
