Want to Friend Me on Facebook? Please Use My Public Page or LinkedIn Instead

January 12, 2010

Here’s a truism that Facebook PR is not sure how to readily admit. There really aren’t 350 million members on Facebook. Take my husband’s grandfather as an example. He’s an 89-year-old guy who doesn’t really have his passwords all in the same place, nor does he have an acute sense of hearing to realize that when his grandchildren say “hey grandpa, I’m making a Facebook account for you!” he should respond with “Oh, I already have one.” Consequently, the guy has three Facebook profiles, all of which were created for him by three different members of his family.

Got any family members who boast more than one Facebook profile? You’re likely not alone. Now consider your industry. I have several friends who have both a personal profile and a business profile. These are users who like Facebook but find it rather difficult to merge the personal and professional into one cohesive online identity. I’m sure the internet marketing industry isn’t alone in this regard.

In Memory of My Grandpa David, a Wonderful Man

October 25, 2007

Grandpa David

As many of you know, my grandfather has been ill for awhile. Yesterday, on October 24, he succumbed to complications from lung cancer (though he never smoked). He was 84.

If I could talk about the wonderful man he was, even the paragraphs that follow would not capture the essence that was Grandpa David. He was, quite simply, a beautiful man inside and out. He was incredibly giving and made huge sacrifices for his community, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and even his great-granddaughter who was born the week after he was admitted to the hospital for the last time. Here are just some of those contributions:

8 Random Things You Never Really Knew About Me

August 27, 2007

David Dalka from Chicago tagged me in a relatively recent meme, and although I’ve already answered this question once before, I decided that I’d do David a favor and oblige. ;)

It took me a good deal of time to find eight things that people don’t really know about me, but I think I have it…

  1. When I was young, my mother always said I was going to be a lawyer. I guess I always had a disposition for playing devil’s advocate (or fighting for something I firmly believed in). I still do try to make strong arguments, but I’m not an attorney. The closest thing to that was being a private investigator post-college.
  2. I used to read books. A lot. Then, at age 12, I got my own computer. Reading was put on the back burner for about 14 years. I only started picking up books again recently after a close friend suggested that I read some good books.

Why Do I Blog? Let Me Count the Ways

April 6, 2007

Another meme has come to town, and this time I’m answering this one here (my last meme was posted over at 10e20.com — 5 things you don’t know about me). Nathan Weinberg (still no relation) tagged me and Barry, among a few others, and while I’m totally under the weather with an awful cold, I decided that I have to oblige right away because I’m going to be inundated with family and conferences over the next week.

So, why do I blog? Upon giving it more thought, here are my reasons:

  • I love to write. On my About page, I write about how I wanted to be an author. That never quite materialized (attempting to realize your parents’ dreams at a very impressionable young age almost always does that to you). With my blog, I can freely express what I want and can finally see myself as a writer.
  • I love to learn. My blogs (well, there are actually six of them) have enabled me to open doors and learn new things.
    • 10e20 gave me the opportunity to explore the blogging arena in the area of SEO and social media, using strategies learned at an older job.

Light Posting Alert: Passover and SES NY

March 31, 2007

On Thursday night, I attended the Problogger/Text-Link-Ads NYC Meetup. I barely knew anyone, and neither did Darren, apparently, but he was indeed the celebrity. (Can you find me in those pictures?) I also was fortunate to meet Philip Liu who took some nice shots of the event as well.

Tomorrow night, I’m headed southbound to hang with the folks for the Passover holiday. I’ll then be back here to do some work, but next weekend, I’m headed to the in-laws in Pennsylvania for the remainder of the holiday.

The Search Engine Strategies conference in NY will be in full-spin when I return to New York. I’ll be covering some of the SES-NY sessions along with a bunch of wonderful people who I haven’t yet met. If you’ll be at SES-NY, please be sure to introduce yourself.
